    This is group work for Falmouth Ba (Hons) Sustainable Product Design and charity Cornwall mobility. Working in groups of four over the course of four days we developed more ergonomic driving aids for people with spinal injuries that have no use of the lower body. We focused on making the aids (steering ball and throttle brake lever) as ergonomic (physically and cognitively) as possible. We developed a system whereby 3D scanning is used to make the aids personal to the user and truly ergonomic, these scans will be used in a CAD program with an add-in algorithm to map buttons to the users thumb and index fingers. This is work completed over four days working with Cornwall Mobility to design better driving aids for the disabled, focused more specifically at spinal injury victims who have lost the use of their lower body, meaning they have to drive with the following aids: a steering ball with secondary controls and a lever throttle and brake; these are designed with little focus on ergonomics.
Our outcome focused on creating personal, physically and cognitively ergonomic aids; this is done through 3D scanning and rapid prototyping, creating custom aids with controls comfortably at the users fingertips.
