This is my entry for the 2014 Penguin Design Award. The book offers a darkly comic look at the political and social environment of Thatcher-era Britain, with Coe’s fictitious Winshaw family embodying the English ruling class. What A Carve Up! takes aim at the world of banking, the media, agriculture, health-care, the arms trade and the arts. For me, it was important that a cover could highlight the novels comedic nature and present a satirical portrait of the central Winshaw family.
