Project Trofigraphy is a personal project where I will be creating different typography designs using food. The project name came from the greek words trofi meaning "food," and graphia meaning "to write."
For the 2nd phase of this project, I decided to work on "definitions." Specifically, I want to work on typography involving words which have double meanings mostly in the context of Filipino colloquial language. Filipinos are very creative when it comes to communicating to other people; this is one of the main reasons why the Filipino language has been evolving ever since.
Here's the 1st entry for this phase: "paminta," which is pepper in English.
Besides being one of the most popular spices in the Philippines, "paminta" may also mean someone gay or homosexual who is pretending to be manly. The term came from the word play "pa-men," meaning "trying to be like men." Colloquial language turned "pa-men" into "paminta" as a pun.
Translation of copy:
1. A kind of spice; Chicken or pork adobo tastes delicious when pepper is added.
2. A homosexual pretending to be manly; I am into "paminta's." #OOOHH
