Arena Unity Asset Pack Series
At the start of the year I set out to create an asset pack series while I was learning the Unity game engine. I created a simple first person shooter from scratch. Most of this was done through a ton of tutorial watching and just hacking things together.
The first thing I sat down to do while working on the game play code was put together a logo package. I knew I wanted all of the assets branded and have a consitent feel to the packaging. This even caried over to the temp material used as the debug art.
One of the first things I created was a shotgun, because you know every FPS needs one. This was heavily inspired by the DOOM shotgun. This first asset also allowed me to establish my over all art style which I wanted to be simple and easy to replicate.
After the Shotgun I put together some crates for the level then jumped into the UI side of things. Unity's new ui tools were really easy to use and I got familiar with them pretty quick.
The hands and the pistol were the next two things I created. Having guns floating there just felt weird so I added in some hands. The blaster was inspired by the Quake 2 blaster and had the same firing mechanic.
The last two packs were the Rifle and the Switches. These assets wrapped up my core list. During these two packs I also created some basic AI that I was happy with and made everything really feel like a game. I didn't get fully designing a level however. The nice thing with this project is I can always come back to it but for now I'm calling it finished.
