PROBLEM
An automotive company wanted to evaluate 5 prototype concepts of capacitive seating controls.
PROBLEM
An automotive company wanted to evaluate 5 prototype concepts of capacitive seating controls.
OBJECTIVES
Understand the usability and acceptance of capacitive controls
Identify recommendations for preferred control design
Uncover any usability issues across the capacitive controls as compared to standard mechancial control bank
Rate each concept on user experience metrics.
PROCESS
I was the lead researcher on the project. I conducted 31 individual within-subject interviews of 5 prototypes. Participants completed "priming" homework activities prior to their sessions. Prototype order and task order were counter-balanced. Metrics were collected on identifying the controls, knowing how to perform the tasks, responsiveness, and desierd experience.
FINAL DELIVERABLES
A final presentation was delivered which included participant preferences, synthesized attributes of successful and unsuccessful design attributes, and design implications and recommendations for future development.
