Mood Foods Application

“Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.”
Hippocrates

Envisioned to function similar to a calorie/macronutrient tracker, Mood Foods correlates food intake to mental health and visualizes micronutrient consumption in terms of Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) levels as determined by a RDI calculator provided by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
Capitalizing on the organic, natural characteristic of whole foods and the sustainability movement, hand drawn typography and illustrations were incorporated into the application to make this tool more approachable for personalizing the data-driven process of tracking food. Similarly, deep vibrant colors were used to present this information to further encourage usability and embody “health”.
From left to right: Selection of "Mood" with the user's top three most common mood states, and search box to search for a new mood state; Home screen; Selection of "Food" with the user's top three most frequented foods, and search box to search for new foods.
From left to right: Whole food recommendations that the user should consume to help combat the selected mood state; Sample screen that lists nutritional information and mood benefits about a selected whole food; If the user wants to log the consumption of a whole food item, they're asked to input the number of servings.
From left to right: Daily overview of micronutrient consumption; Sample screen that describes the importance of the selected micronutrient to the human body; User profile, which jointly serves as a Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) calculator.

“Thirty years of nutritional advice have left us fatter, sicker, and more poorly nourished. Which is why we find ourselves in the predicament we do: in need of a whole new way to think about eating.”
