HAND-IN-SCAN
product and interface design

Hand-in-Scan uses ultraviolet light, digital imaging and artificial intelligence software methods to distinguish sanitized versus infected areas after hand washing. It helps to ensure perfect hand hygiene through objective, personalized assessment.
These functions make Hand-in-Scan a unique tool for effective control and education of hand hygiene, targeting a wide group of people in various domains from medical organisations to food industry.

Hand-in-Scan’s wall-mounted design is sculpted by the aesthetics of simplicity and functionality. As a health tech product, Hand-in-Scan has to comply with hygiene and usability standards, thus the device must be easy to clean and robust enough to take thousands of scans every day.

In use:

Hand-in-Scan’s step-by-step graphic user interface makes the scanning process easy and understandable. Hand hygiene is performed with a UV-marked hand rub mix distributed from the built-in touchless dispenser. The solution appears brighter on surfaces sufficiently treated with the alcoholic disinfectant.
Pictures of the hands are taken in the UV-lighted box with integrated wide angled digital cameras. Both palmar and the dorsal sides of the hands are scanned simulatneously.
Detailed results calculated by Hand-in-Scan are shown on the screen. All records are accessible later on the Hand-in-Scan’s reporting platform.
Hand-in-Scan is a patented technology. Tested for efficacy and ergonomics on over 15,000 healthcare workers.
Reporting:

Hand-in-Scan Reporting System is a personalized software interface providing statistics about hand hygiene compliance and progress.
Hand-in-Scan has the ability to track individuals with its identification system, thus a continuous, unbiased and comprehensive monitoring is available. Individual practices together outline the organization’s hand hygiene trends, allowing for targered intervention.

To design a product that will be used by such different audiences it is essential to make sure it's user friendly, highly intuitive and doesn't require too much interaction.
Hand-in-scan had to be specified for easy cleaning and wall mounting.
The first prototypes were tested successfully on more then fifteen thousands medical professionals.
