Bringing old things back to life. Discovering the design and attention to detail of old crafted works is probably the most exciting part of restoring. 6 incredibly large doors should be brought back to their former glory to become part of a beautiful old house in Aachen, Germany. This project required discipline and strenuous physical work within a tight schedule. The glass in the doors had been painted, which had to be removed. The fine grooves and ornaments had to be exposed from the various layers of paint. Sometimes I have counted up to 5 layers of paint. Once the paint was removed almost completely from the doors - except from the fluted glass - I decided to remove the old glass and insert new glass instead. Finally the doors were transported from my workshop in Cologne to the apartment in Aachen. The doors where included in new door frames and painted in white. The result is very fresh and clean which perfectly complements the style and charm of this apartment.
