The final layout, complete with title and mystery items.
Charting the Final Frontier is the product of a collaborative initiative between myself and long-time freelance partner Quantum Mechanix. While it is not currently in production, I wanted to share the fruits of the experiment. Given the challenge to "create a periodic table of starfleet technology," I did quite a bit of research into not only the LCARS graphic user interface designed for the television series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, but also the many hundreds of technologies introduced since the franchise's inception.

Believe me when I say my lists topped out at 500 unique defined technologies, races and worlds to consider for the 110+ spots available in any basic periodic table. What followed was a process of elimination that, as a fan of all Trek, tore at the very core of my nerd soul. I would only later find peace while designing the structure and basic cell layout for the table, as Michael Okuda created a universally adaptable GUI in LCARS. While the finished product is a unique configuration of Okudagrams, the fonts, colors, and diagrams all adhere to the standards established in the LCARS system.

I'm also including some of my alternate versions which, in the end, were far too complex visually for a design so complex sebjectively.
Enhanced 'element' key with application guide.
Close-up Communications and Sciences section.
Close-up tactical section.
WIP grid, layout and framing.
Thank goodness for Illustrator. That's a lot of assets to keep track of.
It was quickly decided that less is very much more...
