Buzz Company 10th Anniversary Postcards

Buzz Company 10th Anniversary Postcards
A set of seven postcards reminding the creative community that The Buzz Company was celebrating ten years of talent engagement and placement. As a set, the cards were mailed out through the Summer into Fall. Creative habitats, community support and urban settings were explored through the visuals. Across all cards, persistent elements reinforced critical information. Variables, that forced the layouts to adapt, were introduced to reflect the unique qualities of a changing creative landscape.

Illustration wasn't my strength and personal visuals always felt missing. As a challenge, I decided to work with only my own renderings across all seven cards. This helped tremendously with the control through the set. Many parts were created as vector and rather than leave them flat, all elements were printed and "lived with" for weeks at a time. This created a realistic decay and truer sense of time inherent in the concept of the series.
The first card set the tone in seven days of work. An extremely tight timeline forced quick decisions and critical thought on the duration of the set. Meaning, message, audience and tone were all identified in this first piece.
Once the first card was out the door the remainder of the set design was slowed down and perfected. The elements of the series were decided upon and illustration, color and typography began.
Within every card was a visual representation of opportunity explored through nature or habitat. Emergence,  beginnings and roots became common themes of Buzzco's relationship with the creative community.
As the months went on, color choice was reflecting the changing temperature and seasons outside.
Within each card was a typopgraphic and lettering experiment. Inspired by the urban setting, past and present, fonts and lettering worked together to create familiar but unrecognizable moods.
Typography moved less toward perfect setting and more toward the textural environment that Chicago signage and lettering creates.
The final illustration was of a desk plant I had had with me at my office since the beginning of the project. It was only a a few leaves when I started but had sprouted into a great companion along the way!
