Since the popularization of Internet databases, there hasbeen a movement towards using the Internet as a primary or transactive memory.Instead of memorizing and storing information ourselves, collective databaseshave been established from which we withdraw information from. This practice hasrecently come under query, from Columbia University, as to whether it isleading towards an atrophy of our memory banks. Where information is no longerstored in our own memory banks but withdrawn from collective memory banks.
In my recovery from a traumatic brain injury, I was directedto write notes and reminders due to the memory atrophy that it had caused. Inthe visual and technological 21 st Century, it was a naturalprogression from writing notes to the involvement of modern portable technologyand visual aids to assist in my recollection of individuals and informationassociated with them. This practice developed into a photographic archive thathas aided in the atrophy of my memory and become a slick photographic body ofwork.
