The design is based around using recycled materials to be more ‘eco-friendly’. The blocks are made from recycled concrete, rubber and glass to try emulate the surface of natural sea rock. The porous nature of the concrete also makes it very easy for natural corels to grow on the blocks. The shape of the blocks also redirects tidal energy so when a wave hits the blocks its force is dissipated, so the likelihood of coastal damage from large waves is reduced.

 

This design and concept was awarded the bronze prize in an international competition, the Creative Conscience awards.
