HIGH.5 the body as a musical instrument
WORKSHOP: 6 months | Germany, 2010
TEAM: D. Costa - advised by F. Zebner (HfG Offenbach), & J. Leinberger (MESO)
MY ROLE: UX / UI, Arduino, vvvv

Context

The project called OPEN DESIGN III - VERSTRICKT (involved) proposed to find new ways to engage people in fun activities using the power of open source technology as a prototyping tool. I chose to combine it with music as it belongs intrinsically to the human emotional experience. High.5 transforms movement into music through a very unique and fundamental way: the touch. A gesture of trust and validation like the ‘high five’ is transformed into music and soon enough people are dancing together, which produces new sounds, chimes and beats. The prototype was presented and tested by a wide range of users at the DMY 2011 in Berlin.
