Ink Golems

Here are a few mugshots from a new series that I created for NeonMob.

I've been super fascinated with this process of mirroring images in search of compelling figures and faces and am interested in how we as pattern-seeking primates are wired. Something of a fun little spin on the classic Rorschach Inkblot Test.

For this collection I stuck with tight portraits, simply dropping colored calligraphy ink into acrylic tanks of water, then cutting and flipping the images to create these portraits. The way in which the different colored inks open up in the water--billowing, branching, unfurling--each seem to conjure entirely different "species". As I mixed more colors, the greater complexity seemed to suggest an evolution of characters and the concepts they represent, spanning the entire range from simple, single creatures, to complex planetary forces, all the way up to the theological virtues and their counterparts.

This is only a small part of the full collection. You can see and collect all 34 of these for free HERE on NeonMob.

Thanks for taking a look!
