Missing: An Interactive Thriller.
I joined Zandel Media for a few months as all rounder contract 3D/FX artist.
I really liked this project because it required a good spectrum of skillset: real time 3D, movie FX, compositing and a good mix of open source softwares and classics!
All the prerender and realtime scenes have been made with Blender. I used After Effects for the color correction and the rotoscoping part of the project. Photoshop helped a lot too.
Finally the game scenes were integrated in Unity.
I think Blender was the best choice available for this kind of project where you need to mix movie shots, photo-realistic prerender and realtime 3d assets.
Chain Room:
Completely modeled and remapped in 3D to create a parallax effect and to allow the camera to move and rotate
3D scene in Blender
Dark Room:
movie footage
As for the Chain Room, the 3D recontruction helped a lot in making the scene alive. Subtle camera shake and rotation on the blades create the illusion that you are still watching a movie.
Door Lock:
movie footage
3D version to replace the door lock characters by a specific set of letters
In this scene Blender and Cycles helped lot, and after some minor adjustments in After Effects you cannot tell it’s another set of letters
Black Puzzle:
movie footage
The high resolution block puzzle was created and rendered in Blender then remapped on a low polygon version using Blender's render to texture too
the final version, integrated in Unity
The Furnace:
movie footage
Lever rendered in 3d and composited in Blender
Final scene with the lever integrated and the puzzle mechanics added (using photoshop)
The Valves:
valves in created and rendered in Blender + compositing
THe 3D version allowed us to move the pieces around in order to create a nice and easy to play scene on mobile
Prerendered valves, steam particles, subtle camera shake, blinking lights and animated gauge!
