1. Illustration: Geometric Abstract
The challenge for this project was to use geometric shapes and the hues of the colour wheel to create a design.
First, I came up with some ideas and put them down in thumbnails. My ideas consisted of numerous lines drawn at random so these could create shapes. Then, I chose the one I felt more connected to and drew it in a bigger scale.
For the final piece I decided to use masking tape instead of drawing the lines. This would make the triangles look neat. Then I decided to add some contrast and simoultaneously give a sense of space by adding the blue violet.
2. Creating a Dingbat Symbol
The objective of this assignment was to create and develop a black and white dingbat that depicted and animal with an attitude or expression.
I decided to try multiple expressions on various animals. I chose a rabbit and took away as many lines as possible without eliminating its easily-recognizable features.
For the final piece, I illustrated a surprised rabbit. I decided a rabbit's face could take on the expression of surprise efficiently, without taking away from its authentic features.
3. Sunquest Travel Poster - Theme: Greece
We were tasked to design a poster to encourage travel to Greece, Rome, Egypt, Persia or Turkey. The target for the poster was to include 3 artifacts, patterns or graphics from the Royal Ontario Museum or the Internet.
The objects I picked for the first thumbnails were stereotypical, and they way I positioned them made the poster look boring. For these reasons, I decided to change the objects to less cliche ones, and work with the rule of thirds as an attempt to make the poster look more interesting.
3. Life Drawing
4. Hair Studies
I started off by practicing with pencil and a few felt tip pens on paper.
When I felt more comfortable, I went on to use a variety of tips and colour.
5. Collage: Don't fill yourself up with hate
I intended to convey a message through this piece. People often bottle up their emotions, forgetting the importance of expressing and letting out their feelings.
5. Illustration: Lips
My main focus for this piece was experimenting with paint. I decided on acrylic because I feel comfortable with it, and gouache because I wanted the closest red to a primary red.
