This is the result of a 4 days workshop held by designer Valentina Rachiele at Iuav, University of architecture of Venice. Aim of the workshop was to discover and improve the use of the software Nodebox, used to create complex data visualizations. The data we used came directly from our gathering and monitoring of every type of waste that an average western human being produces in a 24 hours time.

The first data visualization considers the consume of each member of the working team during various time of a day. It highlights that paper is the most productive category.
The second visualization is based on typography, it considers the total amount of garbage and highlights the frequence and the amount of major wastes.
Some particulars of the posters
Colors are inspired by Q.Tarantino movie Reservoir dogs and stand for the partecipants of the workshop.
Different diameters represent different amounts of wastage.
Behind the scene
Here are some screenshot from the Nodebox interface.
The language of the software works with block, wich representand action, and curves, which represent functions.
The software is especially useful in presence of large amounts of data.
Nodebox allows the construction of big structure of elements.
Nodes, blocks and curves are the bases of this language.
