灰 / Gray - Architectural Book

Editorial

灰 / Gray is a book that aims to explore the Japanese concepts of zen (禅) and wabi-sabi (侘寂), by looking at the works of modern Japanese master architects, and understanding their ability to create structures with minimalistic aesthetics that are harmonious with their surroundings.

These buildings by the masters are examples of how ‘less-is-more’, and their subdued and pared-down forms offer an alternative to the garish, over-designed structures that we often see these days.

Bare concrete walls are often described as boring and emotionless, but this book will aim to change that misconception, by showing the possibilities of finding, and appreciating beauty in simplicity; finding emotion in the emotionless.
