October-December 2014

This particular body of work was produced as part of my first term as a third and final year student on my photography course at University. I focused my attention on creating a travel diary which involves my passion for writing and creating a narrative with being accompanied by images to build more meaning. As the project developed it became a diary in which I described more personal feelings, thoughts and emotions. I still reflected these particular emotions in a photographic form, and the images above are the 7 images I submitted that had particularly strong meanings to me from throughout the project. There were two main themes within the work, which are hopefully evident throughout the work. The first is that within each image, no matter how small or large, there is an element of red. The reason for this is because the image of The Poppy was the reason I started the concept in the first place, and was keen in using the colour red in all of the images. I used William Eggleston as a key reference, as he too uses colour in a very bold manner. Another technique used was to highlight my life within the diary and images but to never show my face! The project was a challenge but I am very pleased with the outcome of the work! And I am currently in the process of making a video extending on from this body of work for my Final Major Project.
