TEAM PROJECT

The following work created by the following people: CIARAN HYND, HAZEL WYLIE, DEAN TAYLOR, RHIANNON WALKER

We were tasked to develop digital interactions around Dundee city square using technologies that would be available in 2023, in other words there were no technological restrictions and we could focus purely on the concept and experience.  We were told every surface around the square was capable of behaving like a screen or other piece of digital technology.  The results of this team project had to increase visitor engagement with the city square, a large outdoor space.

Our research phase consisted of field observations in the city square to obtain useful insights about the physical area and the people and potential users of our futuristic interventions.

After this we drew conclusions and started to build a concept.

Our concept was a public service called Infowish.  We wished to transform the fountains dotted around the city square into interactive tourist information points.  The premise was to create a mobile application that connected groups of users and communicated with this digitally enhanced fountain.  Our app was a decision making tool for groups of visitors in Dundee looking for something to do.  Users input words into the app that describe what they want to do (for example, “ART, FOOD, MUSIC”) and these user responses are read by the fountain which outputs a compromise idea/venue in Dundee that takes all users desires into consideration.  The output idea/venue is dynamically displayed to the group.  We adopted a visual language for the app that reflected the tradition of throwing coins into the fountain.

We tested out our concept using paper based prototyping in which we made a paper application and built a cardboard fountain which we used to mimic the user experience.  We also developed wireframes for the app and made a video that conveys a user journey.
