Finally, a bit of cheating; my wife took the best prints I could get from the linoleum blocks I cut (and reversed the "g" in "Brought to you by Norm"), assembled them together in Photoshop, and hit the Posterize filter. Suddenly the thing had the impact, 'pop', and glow I had envisioned all along (but was nowhere near achieving).

Photographs of Norm Prescott, founder of the college I work for, whom I have revived as "Normal Prescott", library mascot and all-around curious, peppy fellow. I had the black and white areas segregated and mirrored via Photoshop.
