Frontier Development’s awarding winning Wii-Ware title blew its way onto iOS 2011. The young hero of Lostwinds, Toku found a brand new home and Apple discovereLostwinds Mobiled the perfect game for its touch gesture interface.

During the late development of Kinect Disneyland Adventures, myself and GUI artist, Dominic Estephane began working with the Lostwinds Mobile team to bring Frontier’s much loved, Lostwinds 1 & 2 to iOS. It was our second game for the platform, following on soon after Kinectimals Mobile, and like that game we used Unity to bring the GUI to life.

Being a higher resolution port of the Wii original, we were required to re-create the Lostwinds charming, papercraft-style GUI . However we had to do this from scratch in most cases as the original GUI source files couldn’t be found and the Wii assets were too low a res to upscale.

In addition to this, we also had to create several new UI screens to support the game’s new features. Managing all of this whilst “crunching” on Disneyland Adventures was a challenge, but Toku and the world of Lostwinds were worth it.
