Poetry event in Rijeka organized by Nataša Stanišić and Ivana Režek

Poets from different parts of the region - from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina have responded to our call and have generously allowed us to use their poems for this event in Rijeka. We have selected a couple of poems by each author, and printed each poem in 300 copies on papers of different colors. We then posted these poems all over the town of Rijeka - at the bus stations, on the old city walls, on public message boards, at every place that posters and ads are usually posted, at colleges, any frequently-visited place in town.... while we were posting the poems, a lot of people were interested in what we were doing, so we handed out a lot of poems as 'flyers'. to anyone who wanted to have them...we also left a lot of these 'flyers' on the tables at coffee shops and restaurants, as well as at the town's libraries. We also posted poems on every tree in the main alley on Trsat (where ads and notices are usually posted) and which takes over a half an hour to walk down. The idea was for the poems to be only loosely attached, so that people could easily take them down and keep them, if they saw something they liked.The poems have drawn a lot of attention, and were rapidly disappearing from the places where they were posted over just a couple of days - and we hope that this event has broght the poetry closer to the people, inspired them, and gave them motivation for changes for the better in their everyday lives.
