Bardmoor Medical Arts Center - ER Waiting

Interior Design
The concept for the Bardmoor ER addition is 'Tranquil Brook".  This concept was chosen to build an environment that would passively engage the users of the space in a calming way, while helping to build a mental bridge between the healing powers of water and the users current sense of place.  Due to infection control concerns in a hospital no real water features could be incorporated.  Instead indications of water were designed by using light, texture, form and color.  Although budget is always on a designers forefront, some eco/people loving materials were able to be incorporated into this project.  The flooring throughout the ER addition is Linoleum, a Volatile Organic Compound or  VOC free product made of natural raw materials that provides a safer indoor air quality than the common alternative, vinyl.  Additionally, the resin panels in the casework are made by Indigenous artisans from the coastal regions of rural Colombia who cut coconut palms with consideration for re-growth.  The design was executed in modern clean lines, reflecting the 'state of the art' quality of this ER facility.
