For my Vector Illustration course, we had to do a packaging design. I really gave myself a challenge, because I was determined to do it entirely in illustrator. Anyone who knows me knows that's a stress-headache in the making. But this class has helped me open up to Adobe Illustrator and really embrace how powerful it is. I definitely lack finesse, but I'm quite proud of how it all came together! We had to use the 3D effects to make a mock up, a template of a box, etc. all in Illustrator.

So I was inspired by Russian culture for this project. I'm not Russian by any stretch of the imagination, but given my name, it's always assumed before I meet people, and as a young girl I thought so many aspects of it were beautiful. I wanted to do tea, and I've always loved faberge eggs, so that's where it started. After some research, I found out that Russian tea culture is no laughing matter! I should have expected it, considering they're neighbors with China. I love getting a backstory to my work, so this made me even more excited.

I knew form the get-go I wanted this vintage feel. I mean it's tea after all. Then I saw the matryoshka dolls and the rest was history! I wanted to channel some vintage imagery, but I wanted to use Illustrator to it's fullest potential and give it this really strong modern look.

Making patterns just became this huge math equation that left my head spinning a bit, but I was really proud at the end of it. And Illustrators color control options made it easy to do the various flavors.  So I present: BUSHKA, for the Russian tea snob in all of us. Super cute and Babushka approved!
