The first project for Print II was to create a floral repeat, but under two themes. The first theme outlined the color palette, which was Feminine. The second was Punctual, and this was used to inspire a background texture. With my color word of feminine, I focused on dusty pastels in pinks and creams, paired with lush but desaturated greens.
The repeat is 27 in. x 27 in. and painted in gouache. The background texture is inspired by Morse code, since it is a punctual and efficient way to communicate. Masking tape is layed down in short and long segments, mimicking the visual translation of Morse code. Gouache soaked into some of the masking tape, and remained on top of other segments of tape. This created a splotchy, organic texture that contrasted well with the curvy, defined feel of the vine and flowers.

I repainted the work to make the background more subtle and to repaint all the flowers in pink. The piece looks more uniform now, but I miss the dimensionality of the first background texture.
