This work is part of Atlas project for the IUAV Univeristy Communication Laboratory. It is divided in a paper and in a digital part and is organized in ten topics, each one assigned to a different group, our is Interplanetary.

Questo lavoro fa parte del progetto Atlas per il Laboratorio di Comunicazione dell'Università IUAV di Venezia. E' suddiviso in una parte cartacea e una digitale ed è costituito da dieci diversi temi, ognuno dei quali affidato ad un gruppo diverso, il nostro tema era Interplanetary.

We are used to consider online communication platforms as Twitter as instantaneous... But what if the Internet and its services are extended to outer space?
Siamo soliti considerare le varie piattaforme di comunicazione online, come Twitter, come istantanee... Ma cosa succederebbe se Internet e i suoi servizi si estendessero fino allo spazio profondo?
"@AtlasDSN" is an interactive Twitter-based installation, created to let the user experience what it would be like to communicate to a Spacecraft cruising through deep space, while giving informations about the time and the energy required.
We took 1979 Atari's "Asteroids" videogame as visual inspiration, as a tribute to the launch of the NASA Voyager probes and the birth of the NASA Deep Space Network in 1977:
"@AtlasDSN" è un'installazione interattiva basata su Twitter, creata per dare idea all'utente come sarebbe comunicare con sonda in viaggio nello spazio profondo, dando informazioni sul tempo e sull'energia necessari.
Abbiamo preso come riferimento visuale il videogioco "Asteroids", di Atari, del 1979, come tributo al lancio delle sonde NASA Voyager e alla nascita della Deep Space Network della NASA nel 1977:

What happens?
> The user sends a tweet mentioning @AtlasDSN and one of the official accounts of the target spacecrafts
> The message is collected by the system and its transmission begin: it is visualized as a signal on the projection, while the user, the destination, the time and the required required to transmit the tweet are shown on the monitor.
> The time the message takes to reach its destination it's the real one, and depends on the distance of the spacecraft: for example, a signal travelling to Mars rover Curiosity at the speed of light takes little less than 20 minutes, while to reach Voyager I outside the Solar System it takes no less than 18 hours

> When the tweet reaches its destination, its text get visualized in the "received" column on the monitor
> The user will receive a tweet from the target spacecraft, when it receives it
Cosa succede?
> L'utente invia un tweet citando @AtlasDSN e uno degli account ufficiali delle sonde disponibili
> Il messaggio viene raccolto dal sistema e inizia la trasmissione: viene visualizzato come segnale sulla proiezione, mentre l'utente, la destinazione, l'ora di invio e l'energia necessaria all'invio sono visualizzati sul monitor
> Il tempo che il messaggio impiega a giungere a destinazione è quello che impiega nella realtà, e dipende dalla distanza della sonda: ad esempio, un segnale che viaggia verso il rover Curiosity su Marte alla velocità della luce impiega poco meno di 20 minuti, mentre per raggiungere Voyager I al di fuori del sistema solare, sono necessarie non meno di 18 ore
> Quando il tweet raggiunge la sua destinazione, il testo viene visualizzato nella colonna "ricevuti" sul monitor
> L'utente riceverà un messaggio di risposta dalla sonda, quando questa riceve il messaggio
