Rainer Gruessner has worked throughout his entire career to provide medical students as well as residents, fellows and junior faculty with the best medical training possible. This drive can be attributed to Dr. Gruessner’s desire to deliver the most efficient and effective surgical care possible.
Dr. Gruessner has worked long and hard to make changes to existing surgical practices to minimize their invasiveness and to best care for patients. Early in his career he published a pivotal paper on the superiority of non-invasive ultrasound vs. invasive peritoneal lavage for the detection of blunt abdominal trauma. He was also involved in the development of transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) to establish a minimally invasive procedure for the resection of certain recto-anal tumors.
