Tom Smalling, owner and creative director at Smalling Studios LLC., just completed the e-commerce website for Roman Packaging.  The website, www.romanpackaging.com, features an online catalog of over 5,000 products that ship locally out of Roman Packaging’s Sanford office/warehouse.  In our first development meeting we discussed adding products to the website – but not developing a full e-commerce website. But, once we started discussing the needs client, it became apparent nothing short of a full working system would suffice.  When I demonstrated the Business Catalyst System to the client they were sold on the features it offered.

One of the big challenges with the project was determining how to build the template to work on multiple devices. We decided to build a custom website using the Bootstrap Framework.  This allowed us to target different devices and provide a level of customization necessary to answer the needs of the client and provide a solid responsive template. Furthermore, using the Bootstrap Framework allowed us to shorten the development time and focus on importing the products into the e-commerce system. 

Using the Business Catalyst system we were also able to incorporate a custom newsletter into the system.  This newsletter is connected to the Customer Relations database allowing them to determine customer engagement and create targeted email and marketing campaigns.
