Rainer Gruessner is an esteemed member of the medical community, spearheading innovative developments in the field of transplantation. The patients receiving his treatments praise his expertise and capability to deliver excellent care, and the treatments he has administered have been highly effective in improving the quality of life for his patients.
In 2007, Dr. Gruessner took the position of Chairman of Surgery at the University of Arizona. He also served as Chief of Transplantation and Surgical Director of the Hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) Program at the University Medical Center. The HPB Center was devoted to the treatment of diseases and ailments of the liver, pancreas, gall bladder and biliary systems. In 2012, Dr. Gruessner and his team performed the first robot-assisted total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplant, successfully avoiding the development of surgically induced diabetes resulting from traditional total pancreatectomy.
