Social awareness campaign
The Not So Harmless Plastic campaign is a public awareness design project that approaches the issues surrounding the disposal and recycling of plastic items in a new thought provoking direction. Market research in recycling reveals endless bright and cheery recycling visuals and positive enforcement. Green, blue and yellow palettes dictate the mood and message. I decided that a more drastic approach is in order.
Recalling commercials advertising the safety of plastic products, I developed imagery where the plastic item is crafted into a immediately recognizable danger. The message becomes much more potent when the connections the viewer has to make are eliminated to the fewest possible while still maintaining its impact.
