Created in spring of 2005 as a part of pre-university composition course,

even after all these years this is easily one of the most precious projects of mine -

based on the ingenious works of Maurits Cornelis Escher,

this composition takes a bold turn in adopting

his illusionistic methods for an entirely different paradigm -

 

that of the dark yet enchanting Russian fairy-tales,

particularly those about the legendary witch Baba-Yaga,

her instruments of extra stealthy flight - broom & mortar,

and her charmed forest dwelling - an izba

equipped with chicken* legs for swifter movement.

 

Each Baba-Yaga represents a unique design of her instruments and outfit.

Important Russian etymology note: если бы ножки избушки были действительно chicken,

то звучало бы это как "курицыны" или "куриные".
"Курьи" означает просмоленные, т.е. избушка на просмоленных сваях.
