The following example is one of twenty botanical illustrations done of a series of chilli and pepper plants. The aim was to achieve a Victorian botanical feel with the parchment, but at the same time retain the vibrant and colourful aspects of the fruit and plants. All the plant sketches were referenced from the actual plant forms, scanned into Photoshop and then coloured.

This is the original drawing that was cleaned up from a sketch done of a live plant. Key elements were placed for grouping and importance. The pencil sketch was achieved using a 3B pencil on layout paper. It was then scanned into Photoshop, and the levels adjusted to make the black and whites more strong, and then placed on the top layer with 'multiply' selected.
