iPhone

I started using my iPhone for the first time for something other than the occasional family picture. We were at the Huntington Gardens and I started shooting plants and got some interesting results. The first eight images are from that series.
The next day I went back to conduct an experiment to see if I could trick myself in to seeing like I was shooting with an iPhone before I shot with my Nikon.
I carried my iPhone in one hand and the Nikon in the other and when I saw something I wanted to shoot I would shoot it with my iPhone first and then with my Nikon go throught the process of setting my tripod and camera and shooting the same things.
I think, In some ways I failed because I can't quite see the same way with my heavy Nion Cameras as I do with my iPhone. I think when I pick up the heavy camera, lock ont0 the sticks, and composed, adjusted focus, aperture, shutter speed etc. something happens that pulls me out of iPhone mode.

It is the process of cognative disassociation because there is little to think about when we are using an iPhone. Just pickup and shoot. Little prefrontal cortex activity; just like when jazz musicians play music. Workng MRI images show activity prefrontal cortex diminishes while they play but other areas of the brain assocaited with emotion and the subconscoius light up with activity. I think this is what happens when I am walking with an iPhone.

Working with my Nikon isn't as effortless, spontaneous and fluid a process and consequently am not seeing the same way. However, I was influenced by the iPhone even though I cannot adjust for depth of field or zoom. Still experimenting.
Got to thank my success team for pushing me to start experimenting as well as my assistants for the same reason.

The first six images were made wth my iPhone and the rest with a full frame Nikon.
