Fairy Teller- Reinnovative Project

The look was designed for the Reinnovative project of RISD's apparel undergraduate program.

Just as its name Fairy Teller indicates, this look is deeply inspired by traditional fairy tales-namely Grimm's Fairy Tales.
I was inspired by how some of the most violent and gresome tales, which were created as a means to teach people basic life priciples back in time, can be translated as childish and fantastic bed time stories nowadays.
My aim for this design is to create a look with outlandish, fantastical, and elegant shape with hints of violence coming through.  A total of 2 pieces- a dress and a cape were made as a complete set. The 2 pieces were detachable,
The structures were secured with wire before the main material- book pages were put on. Both the pages and the chain on the neck and some parts of the wire were treated with fire to represent violence.

Materials: Old books, wire, chain

Model: Shunrong Cao
This is the illustration poster made for presenting the look to the guest critics.
The bone structure of the dress part of the look.
Adding tassels to the bottom of the dress.
The 2 pieces with pages on.
Burning the pages with a torch.
I also used open fire to do some burning too but was unable to take pictures of it because open flame has a tendency to burn my entire dress down if I don't pay a close attention to it.
All finished.
Thank you for viewing!
