The base is located at the Dongjiao Market, which is close to CBD area outside the 3rd Ring Road of Beijing. The market appears chaotic and disorderly like an “isolated island” in the city.Therefore I considered to stimulate the renovation process of this area through a catalytic agent, bringing in people from other area, creating new urban indoor and outdoor public spaces and improving its self-adjustment and self- improvement. I wanted to make it gradually coordinate with macro environment of Beijing while maintaining its own characteristics, maximize its potential in pushing the city forward, and eventually fulfill the renewal inside Beijing.
