SINS (Smart and Intelligent Navigation System)

Project Title : SINS (Smart and Intelligent Navigation System)
Project Theme : Digital India
Project Under : USID Foundation, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
Project Mentors : Raman Saxena, Amit Patil,Ganesh Prabhu
Team Members : Chinmay Anand, Samarth Bnasal, Saurabh Singh, Jayati Sinha, Abid Khan and Salil Dhaka
Project Status : Under review by USID Foundation
Project Overview : This project was a carried under the Digital India initiative of Government of India to integrate the government departments and the people of India. This projest was carried under USID Foundation, IIT Kanpur. In the workshop of 5 days, we had to find a problem under the Digital India domain which affect the masses and to come up with a creative solution following the design processes.
THE STORY BEGINS
Understanding the problem
So the first day was fun. We got to interact with our team members everyone was from different place with different views. And the work started. We discussed our views on the theme Digital India like what we relate to when it comes to Digital India name.
Brainstorming
After having an overview of the Digital India theme to dive more into this we started brainstorming on the theme. Whatever came into our mind we just wrote it down randomly.
MENTORS' FEEDBACK : After we did our brainstorming oyur mentors came and they reviewed our works and now they told us to clutter all the simillar things together and to finad realtion among different clusters and finally find a big problem.
Affinity Analysis
We started cluttering all the words that were simillar in meaning or concept and we finally came up with 10 different clusters of simillar things. Actually we were able to now to get headings for each cluster means we were able to relate them
MAPPING : After making clusters we started finding relations among these so that we could get to know about a big problem which would affect the mass.
MENTORS' FEEDBACK : Although we had good ideas, all of them were nothing but internet or mobile based products. They made us realize that Digital Technology is more than a web based software. Frankly, this is an issue, often technology entrepreneurship is synonymized with building web or mobile based software. We need to understand that it is just one small part. Our mentors asked us to think broader. So we started second round of brainstorming – technologies we could think of when we hear ‘Digital India’. Sensors, Internet of Things(IoT), Big Data, Cyber Physical Systems etc were few things we listed down.
As a team, we decided to ponder over IoT based solutions. I started thinking about the applications of sensor technologies that I knew about, and how their connectivity could solve some problems. Again, as a team, we listed around 20 potential areas where such technologies could intervene. After multiple rounds of discussion, we decided to ideate over two areas : Healthcare and Traffic Management. Ultimatley, we had to settle down with one.
"HEALTHCARE OR TRAFFIC SYSTEM? "
We were stuck with two problems and we had to solve any one of them. Three members from our team wanted to solve healthcare issue. We had and idea of persenolization of healthcare devices on the other side 3 other members wanted to solve the problems of Ambulance with Traffic. We were confused what to choose what to do.
MENTORS' ENTRY : So we were a but stuck what to choose because we attracted to both problems. Then our mentors came. They reviewed our work and they started discussing too what to choose and finally a mixed problem was identified which was to "HELP AMBULANCE TACKLE THE TRAFFIC PROBLEMS". And we all were satisifed with the problems and now started working to solve this problem. Research and discussion started.
A snap of discussion with the Mentors.

LETS CREATE A SCENARIO TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM

Suppose in a family there are Mr and Mrs Chaudhary and they are the only members of their house.
Now suppose once Chacha chaudhary got heart attack and fell on the floor. Nilu saw and called the ambulance immediately.
Now Nilu has called theambulance but the traffic has come on the way as you can see a pic from a real world.
Also the driver doesn't know much about the navigation system and Navigation system in ambulances are also not live about the present events like jam on a particular road so that it can redirect the driver to a new and easier path. So we wanted to solve two problems one was to help driver easily understand and use the navgation system and another was to develop a concept of traffic re-routing.
SIMPLIFYING THE INTERFACE OF THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM
We interviewed some drivers of the Mobile ICU ambulance and git to know that they don't even know how to use the navigation system. So we simplified the interface and changed the postion of the display elements in favour of the driver.
TRAFFIC Re-Routing
So now w wanted to automate the traffic system and synchronise it with he navigation system.
Introduced the concept of Internet of Things, involving cloud systems and other daily updates.
Developed a naive approach to detect the traffic.
Use of Big Data and Machine learning to make traffic system more smart .
The algorithm to detect the traffic by giving scored to eacg group of speeds
