The Asmat are an etchnic group of New Guinea, residing in the Papua province of Indonesia. The Asmat have one of the most well-known woodcraving traditions in the Pasific, and their art is sought by collectors worldwide.
Mbipokumbu is the asmat mask ceremony. This tribe believes that before entering heaven, the souls of the deceased will disturb humans. So in order to save mankind and redeem the dead, that they were still alive made a statue and held a traditional ceremony.
Manual drawing has been done with pen 0.03 / 0.1 / 0.4 + ink. Final retouch and coloring with Adobe Photoshop CS5.
