These three videos were produced to create excitement and buzz for two new outboard engines Mercury Marine was unveiling in February 2015. The assignment was to create three videos that showed behind the scenes development of the two new engines, from design and engineering to manufacturing and testing. Our goal was tight shots with shallow depth of field that focused on both the technical instruments and human element behind these new engines. Brief glimpses of the actual engines appear throughout the videos. We were instructed not to show the engines in their entirety but to feature subtle, unique details. We used light and the reflective surfaces of the engines to achieve some pretty cool effects. The soundtrack in the videos are a mix of ambient noise, sonar blips and eerie sounds blended with simple yet strong music. These videos were produced, shot and edited entirely in-house at Mercury Marine. Shooting took place over a week at Mercury's engineering, testing and manufacturing facilities as well as its in-house photo studio.
