Diageo - The Whiskey Infusion Product

The aim of this project was to create an innovative product for the modern drinks industry.
The project brief was created by both Diageo and Maynooth University.

I identified a thriving niche market in the modern whiskey industry. This niche market has grown rapidly within the last decade and shows good indications that it will continue to grow. This niche market can be identified as the up-scale whiskey market. This market seeks high quality whiskey, money is no object.

I conducted user research upon this market to identify trends. I found that mixing flavours with whiskey is a popular activity. The purist way to blend flavours into alcohol is infusion. Infusion involves the alcohol absorbing elements of an outside ingredient. It is a process that can take days to weeks to occur.

I created a 'Whiskey Infusion Lid" which allows raw ingredients to be infused into whiskey in under 30 seconds. The product can be screwed onto a Bell's whiskey bottle. A flavour pod and gas canister can be added to the product to allow the infusion to occur.
