hemp woven to wire, found elm | Ø 6” | 2012
Derived from the Latin word for nest, this primitive piece emanates an organic form naturally springing from its base. Nidus started as an experimentation with wire forms, eventually ending up as a finalist in the SCAD Lamp Challenge.

The wire was looped unto itself & hemp was then woven through the negative space. The base, made from the section of an elm tree, was left raw to reinforce the aesthetic. Additionally, the wire extending from the base was left exposed to feature the  structure & mechanics, further illuminating the concept. No hardware or adhesives were used in order to reinforce the pieces natural form.
