Down Town Magazine (Mansfield BID)

About the Mansfield BID
The BID is a division of the local council that attends to the needs of the businesses in the market area of Mansfield. They supply aid in a number of different ways which include waste collection to free advertising via a bi-annual magazine named Down Town.

The Brief:
Using content supplied by the Mansfield BID and the photographer Nathan Rogers, create a new layout for a 24 page magazine.

Concept:
Create a uniform design which changes subtly from issue to issue to deal with a theme.

Solution:
The front cover has a standardised layout with a new bold header which changes colour from issue to issue. The inside pages are still developing. Issue 4 (my second design) began adding sections and a contents and credits page.

Challenges:
Having to adhere to a brief set by the BID and pleasing all of the small businesses is very difficult. Each business is asked to submit a small amount of text to describe their business or an offer etc. however some businesses send back a full page of text and 3 pictures. This leads to a lot of sections being squashed. In the next issue my goal is to smooth out some of the sections that are over condensed and use my own photography so that I don’t have to tailor a page to the supplied photos.
