Rikers Island Solitary Confinment Unit

This is an image of the solitary confinment unit in the adolescent reception  detention center (ARDC) on Rikers Island. Adolescent inmates are keep in a 8 foot by 6 foot cell for 23 hours a day. The silhouette in the rear of the cells is a inmate suicide aide thats responcible to check cells to make sure inmates do not take their own lives.
 A solitary confinment cell with  an adolescent inmate  sleep under the covers. Locked in a cell for 23 hours sometimes the only thing you can do is sleep.
