Character Design: Finding the right balance for a humanoid is tough. Are they ugly, sexy, familiar, stronger and more like humans or creatures we cant relate with? To create a "good' alien, you must capture aspects of humanity and our likeness to gain approval or overlook other less favourable species attributes.
I suspect we have Inteligence officers who deal with real Off-world incidents today. They operate at above Top-Secrete to compartmentilize any contact information. This goes without saying with advanced aviation and transportation design not to mention the geo-planetary experience a government would have to explain. They will prevent this as long as humanly possible.
