Music Tag Browser is a project developed at Demola Tampere in partnership with Nokia.

Nokia has developed an algorithm to recognize different attributes in songs such as the instruments played, the song vocals, genre, tempo of the song and such other characteristics. They currently use a technical demo to show the potential of their algorithm to their possible partners. The problem resides in that their demo is technical and not really oriented for a selling purpose but rather to show the abilities and potential behind the algorithm.
Therefore, they needed a demo that would be more attractive designwise and which would also show the potential of their algorithm as an actual commercial product.
Designing the layout for the first demo we presented
Second demo, with change in the colors and layout
Final layout
We decided to make the layout icon based. Each tag was an icon and was into a category (genre, instrument, vocal, mood and "other"). All the icons had a normal version and a hover version, in case the used couldn't understand the drawing. Depending on which tags the user chooses, the list will modify itself to match the preferences. Also, once one tag is chosen, it will eliminate tags that, combined with the previous one, will generate small lists.
