Harrison Horncats

Schools have mascotts. It's a symbol of the spirit, teamwork, and students of the school. In my Graphic Design II class, we received a challenge to create a new, fictitious mascott for a school in the state of Arkansas. We where to choose an animal native to the state and run with it. I chose a bobcat, and the city of Harrison. The following is the entire process from start to finish.
This is the final logotype for my team. I chose the name "Horncats" after listening to a friend of my grandfather, who is from Harrison, talk about hunting bobcats, but giving them their name for their horn-esque ears.
Our first task was to find a image to reference. I looked for one that both showed specific characteristics of the animal, as well as looked fierce.
The first, underlying sketch in Illustrator.
First draft of linework for the logo.
With some refinement, I thickened the lines and simplified the shapes while cleaning up the overall design.
Final colors of the logo. I chose pink because in some Native American colors it was the color of not just victory, but intelligent, stratigic, deserved victory over your adversaries.
Next, the class was tasked with putting our finished logos on products for the school. These could be anything from sports atire, to equiptment, to pens, to notebooks. Anything to express out school spirit.
