WIP "The Sweetshop" - Character Concepts

Very early concepts for our main character that goes by the name "Harold".
We thought this design is cute, but it lacked originality... back to the drawingboard
I like the bushy hair in this character, especially the design on the left is something I would enjoy animating. We decided against this design. We thought a chubbier boy would be better. I re-used this concept though as a springboard for the "Literacy Planet" web-commercial. Always good to keep your early designs, even if you don't end up using them! They might come in handy later.
Since there is a bit of magic in the short, I started to play with some effects which was fun.
This is the closest of what we end up calling the final design for "Harold". The project got put on hold though and who knows if it will ever see the light of day.
One of the very early sketches for the shopowner. I actually still kinda like it. It has potential.
Early concepts of the shopowner. I at first imagined a classical design (lower right) - like those in aristocats or gari's game.
Using the classical design above as a springboard I tried to push the designs a bit more.
I like the edgy style the inifity figures have and got inspired to apply that for fun.
Then we went completely off into a new direction. We both liked where this was heading and used this as a springboard for the final design.
Here trying out what sort of design would work for Harold to make him exist in the same world as the shopowner.
Trying some rough poses with the new proportions and design of the shopowner design. Not easy, but fun!
Breaking the elements down helps to understand the design to push the design to the next level. Still tricky!
The final design for "Mr.Sweet" - the shopowner. Would love to see this design in 3D and get my hands on animating it.
