A University breif that tested our typography and typographic story telling ability. The brief required us to choose one of the following Edgar Allan Poe Short stories, The Black cat, The Angle of The Odd, The tell Tale Heart or Eleonora and express as well as correctly portray the story though experimental type and suitably related visual hierarchy.
The Tell Tale Heart is simultaneously a Horror story and psychological thriller that follows a emotionally unstable individual and his unusual obsession with a old man that he murders and hides under his floorboards.
My books main focus was to express the raw emotion and uncontrollable hate towards the old man prior to his murder. This was archived by the unpredictable placement of body type, size and darkening of colour throughout the book in relation to the individuals emotional outbursts. Continuous coloured page overlapping is also apparent throughout the design, this along with the horizontal positioning is to represents the floorboard planks in the story. Instead of page numbering a visual countdown to the end of the story and murder was incorporated.
