The North Face Crowd Lab Submission

From January 6, 2015 to January 20, 2015 The North Face Crowd Lab held a competition to design fabric print design for their Tuolumne tent and Homestead Twin sleeping bag.

The inspiration for my pattern design comes from The North Face’s tagline: “Never Stop Exploring.” When you hike your first mountain or experience an outdoor grandeur, your world seems to turn upside down. This design depicts a linear pattern created with illustrations of mountains, trees, and clouds. When outdoors, you experience different perspectives in various places. The repetitive peaks and valleys of the mountain illustrations also represent the heartbeat, palpitating under the skin of a person who loves the outdoors and their love for what The North Face allows them to do with their gear.

I wanted to use the simple shapes of "mountains" and a minimalistic approach to "trees" to create a pattern. This repetitive pattern creates a linear, striped design. The sky, "trees," and mountains all have a texture to them as well created with lines and dots. I figured everyone would use mountains, but I wanted to take a different approach than the norm with my mountains. Depending on your perspectives in life, what "view" you see may be different than someone else's.

I submitted The North Face Crowd Lab competition, but, unfortunately, I was not one of the 5 finalists. BUT I gave it a shot and I had FUN just creating & designing this pattern.
