National Taxi Vehicle Branding System – 2012

I developed the National Taxi Vehicle Branding system for Ireland’s National Transport Authority in 2012. This involved research, design, iterative prototyping, advising on recommendations, creating implementation standards, and providing ongoing brand governance support tools.
Early sketches investigating how much of the vehicle’s surface areas to brand.
A key success factor lay in creating narrative presentations to explain my design thinking and recommendations. I provided staged presentations for consideration and approval by the NTA, the regulatory committees, and advisory groups.
Some explorations of potential shapes and colours for vehicle branding decals.
Testing early prototypes to establish the optimal size for the majority of door sizes.
The project objectives achieved included creating a recognisable branding device making all licensed taxis more recognisable for customers. Establishing a branding approach that is cost-efficient to produce, as the drivers pay for its installation. My design solution is suitably robust, given competing suppliers around the country produce and apply the branding.
Exploring the optimal angle for the holding stripes behind the primary brand panel.
Example of contrast tests, important given that this brand would have to be applied to vehicles of every colour.
Cover of brand implementation guidelines, release one.
